Australia's top 100 best investment suburbs have been revealed by Your Investment Property magazine. In the newly-released annual guide, cities dominate with 74 suburbs making the exclusive list, compared to 26 regional areas. The top-ranking city was Sydney with 25 suburbs, followed by Melbourne and Brisbane with 12 each.

The report was compiled following extensive research and comparison across 15,000 suburbs nationwide. Seven city localities ranked in the top 10, with Sydney’s inner-city industrial hub Alexandria topping this year’s guide.

Editor of Your Investment Property Nila Sweeney said the strong representation of cities in the Top 100 was a positive sign at a time when public and media focus was often on high property prices in CBD areas.

“Buyers can get a good deal now on a property that will achieve great growth in future by choosing the right location,” said Sweeney. “The suburbs that rated best for investment typically had good comparative affordability with neighbouring areas.”

The Top 100 provides a guide to the areas with the best investment prospects in Australia. Your Investment Property consulted the experts and carried out in-depth analysis to determine this year’s top 100 suburbs, focusing on key factors such as rental yield, long-term capital growth potential and minimal risks.

The Top 100 consists of:

• 25 from Sydney
• 12 from Melbourne
• 12 from Brisbane
• 7 from Perth
• 8 from Adelaide
• 5 from Canberra
• 3 from Hobart
• 2 from Darwin
• 26 regional areas
