Online Marketing Firm Strategic Visual Communications says Adelaide business owners need to be aware of the latest changes to Google's search results, especially business listings in Google Places.

Paul Tselekidis, Director of innovative marketing at Strategic Visual Communications, warns that Adelaide business owners are missing out on phone calls, walk-ins and local customers because they don’t know how the sophisticated search engine works.

Google Places now favours local businesses and promotes them at the top of the search engine results. “So far, so good,” says Mr Tselekidis.

“But if your business was previously at position one in Google on a local search term, for example ‘Electrician Adelaide’ and you were not properly optimised in Google Places, you may find your No.1 spot has dropped to No.8 or worse. This is just another sign that Google is focusing more and more on local search results and wants to show local Adelaide businesses instead of just websites.”

Google Places results often take the premium first page spots in Google search results, and for those Adelaide businesses that haven’t optimised their Google Places listing, they likely won’t be showing up on the first page.

These days when people search with a geographical indicator, such as, “Accountant Adelaide”, “Lawyer Adelaide”, “Dog Groomers Adelaide”, “Catering Adelaide”, “Plumber Adelaide” etc, Google will now show the most relevant local business that provides what the searcher is looking for.
