Palerang Council, a rural local government council near Canberra, is running a series of community consultation forums to hear the ideas, thoughts and opinions from its residents on their vision for the future of the area.

The Council area comprises three towns of Bungendore, Braidwood and Captains Flat and outlying villages of Araluen, Mongarlowe, Majors Creek and Nerriga. It also encompasses the rural residential settlements of Wamboin, Bywong and Sutton East, Royalla, Burra, Carwoola, Stoney Creek, Hoskinstown and Rossi.

Council faces a number of challenges in the future. Working with its community through these forums, Palerang will develop a Community Strategic Plan to make sure that it delivers the right programs and services as its community evolves and changes during the next 20 years. It also needs to make the most of its current assets, such as parks, community halls, pools, bridges and other infrastructure.

The first round of forums will run for four days from 23 – 26 May 2011. Each forum will run from 6.00 – 9.00 pm, with dinner served during the session. The first one will be held at the Gundillion Community Hall, followed the next night at Araluen Community Hall, then the Braidwood National Theatre in the heart of town, and finally on Thursday night at the Nerriga Community Hall.

Come along and have your say about the future of your Shire. Give Council a call on (02) 6238 8111 to book your place at a forum near you.
