~ Compuware Provides Testing From the Data Centre to the End User to Identify Bottlenecks Prior to Launch ~

SYDNEY, Aust. -- May 9, 2011 -- Compuware Corporation (NASDAQ: CPWR), the technology performance company, today announced its selection by SEMA Group to ensure the updated My School 2.0 website could handle the high volumes of traffic following the public release of school financial data earlier this month.

The original My School website received unprecedented levels of interest from the public following its launch in January 2010, with the large volumes of traffic causing delays in accessing school performance data for many early users. In comparison, My School 2.0 has had no availability or performance issues, even in periods of peak demand.

"We learned a lot from the first release, and were determined to improve the quality of the experience for users in the 2.0 version," said Simon Brooks, My School Project Manager for SEMA Group. "With Compuware Gomez load testing, we had an accurate picture of the actual levels of peak demand and the confidence that the website could handle everything that was thrown at it."

In particular, SEMA understood the need to perform testing that reflected the actual experience of users accessing the website in periods of peak demand. This was in addition to traditional testing that monitored the performance of the website in the data centre behind an Internet firewall. SEMA Group evaluated two load testing proposals in conjunction with the My School website's owner, the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA), before selecting Compuware.

"We went with Compuware because they were really engaged right from the start and provided a very 'hands on' approach," said Brooks. "They demonstrated the testing process from end to end instead of just trying to sell us a tool to use ourselves. It was important for us to be able to give ACARA and the responsible ministers the confidence the website was going to stand up to the demands placed upon it."

The pre-launch testing identified two bottlenecks that had the potential to impact users accessing the My School 2.0 website, both of which SEMA was able to resolve prior to the launch. One was related to the speed of the connection to the site's Internet firewall and the other to an unexpectedly large load placed on the site's SQL Server database by a network switch.

"We did not anticipate that the external firewall at the data centre was going to be a bottleneck," said Brooks. "Even though the site could theoretically handle 15,000 concurrent users, the bottlenecks would have caused response time delays, which meant users would have experienced the site as down."

With these performance issues resolved, the My School 2.0 website demonstrated good performance on day one. According to the Gomez Web performance monitoring solution, page load times remained below two seconds across the Internet backbone and averaged five seconds when measured at users' last mile connections during periods of peak load.

"There were no performance issues with the launch, which from a SEMA perspective, was a good result," said Brooks. "I was with ACARA in Sydney on launch day, and they were extremely happy with how things went. We have also had a lot of positive feedback from focus groups, committees and different school groups."

SEMA expects to use Compuware and its Gomez solutions again in the future. "We will definitely consider using Gomez again when there is a requirement for significant performance testing," said Brooks. "Partnering with Compuware gives us a level of experience that we can take to our other clients to give them the confidence that their websites will perform as required."
