Private RTO’s INCREASED VTG Diploma and above enrolments by +998% vs TAFE -10%

According to VET Systems Report 2010 by The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, Victoria Training Guarantee (VTG) enrolments, 2010 vs 2008 have increased 159% by Private Registered Training Organisation (RTO’s) but TAFE’s have only increased 3%.

Futurum Australia Director Fiona Fitzpatrick claims over the last 21 years she has seen a lot of Private RTO’s proactively encourage job seekers and employers to up skill, thanks to government funding. Whilst most TAFE’s have sat on the bench, Private RTO’s have provided cost affective courses, training in areas of need and up skilling the population resulting in employment and promotions.

“In a time where the education sector is experiencing a great deal of changes, it’s easy for the government to cut funding but keep in mind, the drastic reductions will result in a rise of course fees and at this stage education is one of the major solutions to skill shortages” said Ms Fitzpatrick.

According to Ms Fitzpatrick the blueprint for reform of the vocational education sector and Skills for Prosperity report threatens organisations wanting to improve current staff’s abilities.

“Some changes will benefit the industry, example increased auditing will simplify the education industry and make it easier for job seekers and oragnisations to choose a training provider that’s stable regardless of funding, however funding is necessary to continue growth in the education industry” said Ms Fitzpatrick.

“Over the past few years, we have struggled in a turbulent economy where skill shortages have been on a rise, yet until recently Government funding has been inconsistent to support the domestic growth for the sector. The Victorian government has been proactive under VTG and has increased enrollments in business services and community services/health, however other states need to take a similar initiative” she said.
