Guys who want to know what women really think have been lining up to see ‘Waiting for Botox’, a new Australian stage show that takes place in a cosmetic surgery waiting room.

The show takes a hilarious swipe at everything from men who cheat then leave the evidence on their mobile phones, through to women’s endless quest for youth and ‘size zero’.

Launched at this year’s Adelaide Fringe, the show features local performers Betty Samis (Star Ovgrez), Diane Dixon (Paris Hyatt) and April Berry (Adelaide Hills).

In their roles of a single ‘Greek girl with issues’, the rich by marriage and the perfect housewife, the girls have already attracted a large following.

“We knew women would relate to our characters, but what’s surprising is that men are lining up to find out what we women really think!” says Betty Samis.

“The dialogue and songs reveal our innermost thoughts, straight from the lip.”

After devising the premise for the show over lunch and a few wines, the girls called in comedy legend Dave Flanagan to help write the dialogue to suit each character.

“We have the cougar, the single girl who dates cheaters, and the housewife who is bored with her life,” says Diane Dixon. “Everyone knows someone like us!”

Their song parodies from the 80s have had the room erupting with laughter, with requests for a CD recording.

The girls are one of the headlining acts at Comedy Cellars with three of Australia's best-loved comedians, Simon Palomaras, Col Cameron and Dave Flanagan.

“We are so lucky to be on the same bill with such high profile comedians, they have been amazing to work with,” says April Berry.

Adelaide Theatre Guide reviewer Maggie Moore had this to say: “Aimed at the generation that was just a bit too young for ‘Menopause the Musical’, ‘Waiting for Botox’ is an important step in the telling of modern women’s stories and a classy little production to boot. Women, you’ll love it. Men, if you love your woman, it’s a must-see as well.”

Waiting for Botox has its final Fringe run this week: 18, 19, 20 and 21st March at 7PM, Comedy Cellars, Da Costa Arcade, Cnr Gawler Place and Grenfell Street. Tickets from Fringetix.
