THE idyllic Fishing Boat Harbour location of Cicerello’s Fremantle proved an ideal venue for the Mainstreet 2009 opening function, as professionals from around Australia and overseas were welcomed to the port city.

A biennial conference, Mainstreet 2009 has attracted a variety of planners, developers, urban designers, councillors, economic and community development officers, chamber of commerce and business associations, small business community organisations, policy-makers and business and industry leaders.

With a theme of Rediscovering the Heart, Mainstreet 2009 is designed to explore the creation of vibrant mainstreets, looking at the planning, marketing and design while focusing on various practical and specific issues.

Cicerello’s was chosen for the official welcome to Fremantle, representing the best in local seafood and hospitality, matched with one of the best locations in Australia.

“There really is no better place to enjoy the absolute best of Fremantle, particularly when you’re introducing a group of delegates to the conference’s host city,” Cicerello’s owner Henry Liascos said.

“Enjoying succulent seafood, right at the water’s edge in Freo, has been part of West Australian life for more than 100 years and this was an ideal opportunity to show it off to a range of national and international visitors.

“The Mews Park area just adjacent to Cicerello’s was the perfect setting for guests to meet each other and network as they enjoyed a mix of oysters, prawns and other seafood delights, matched with a glass of wine or beer, right underneath a glorious West Australian sunset.

“We wanted to ensure there was a lively atmosphere, so we also had a guitarist on hand, local craft stalls and a magician who mingled with the crowd, ensuring guests were left with a lasting positive impression of Cicerello’s and Fremantle itself.”

A three-time winner of the Fremantle Family Friendly Award, Cicerello’s was established in 1903 and is renowned as a mecca for locals and tourists alike. Within the restaurant, there are many large marine aquariums containing live octopus, eels, giant cuttlefish and numerous species of fish. The recently-unveiled Bon Scott statue also stands nearby.
