CCA-EDUCAUSE Conference, Sydney, April 5th, 2011 – NetSpot is pleased to announce that leading Australian university, The University of Western Australia (UWA), will soon be making the move to the open-source Learning Management System, Moodle 2.0 with support and hosting from Moodle Partner, NetSpot. The enterprise-wide deployment of Moodle 2.0 is scheduled for Go-Live at the beginning of 2012, with the migration of over 1500 units from UWA’s existing Blackboard system.

UWA's search for a replacement for WebCT as its Learning Management System (LMS) focussed on determining a system which addressed both current and future uses by users. Moodle uniquely provides UWA with the opportunity to significantly expand their eLearning capability and integrate a range of additional eLearning tools that enable expansion of UWA's online learning services to students and staff. Moodle was also chosen because of its future-proofing credentials in allowing UWA to flexibly respond to future trends in eLearning and the broader community.

Professor Jane Long, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) at The University of Western Australia stated that,

“During the review process, we determined that a fully hosted system would best support our transition and developments of the LMS for the UWA context, as well as extend our in-house capacity, and provide a platform for future development and growth. As the largest Moodle Partner, NetSpot was identified as the most capable to deliver those services to UWA. NetSpot has been an active and supportive contributor throughout the review process of 2010. We look forward to forming a partnership with NetSpot."

With more than 22,000 students and 3,500 staff, UWA is one of several Australian universities making the move to Moodle 2.0, following the successful launch of Moodle 2.0 at La Trobe University in January this year. NetSpot will be supporting the UWA through the provision of enterprise-level services which include; implementation consulting, training, integration, software development, content migration and managed hosting.

With the decision by UWA to move to Moodle, more than a third of Australian universities and 50% of the Group of Eight (Go8) universities have now made the move to Moodle in the last 3 years. Allan Christie, Founder and Managing Director of leading Australian Moodle Partner NetSpot stated;

"UWA's choice of Moodle and their outsourcing of hosting and related services to NetSpot is further evidence of the enterprise-ready nature of Moodle 2.0 when combined with a trusted services partner."

With more Australian universities deciding to make the move to Moodle 2.0, the many improvements made to the Moodle 2.0 code during the implementation projects will be re-distributed, providing a common benefit. The world-leading skills and experience gained by the team at NetSpot will also prove to be all the more valuable to Australian universities, particularly where an aggressive implementation timeframe is required.
