Brisbane, Qld, 05/04/2011 – According to Tanya Love, the photographer behind The Constellations Project, life is still far from normal in The Lockyer Valley.

Tanya has been allowed unrestricted access to the homes and lives of the people of Grantham during the 12 weeks since the wall of water hit the town on 10th January, as she has worked to photograph and design a financial year calendar that is aimed not only at raising much needed funds for the community, but in also providing a boost in morale and a piece of collectible memorabilia to commemorate the event.

“I am amazed at how welcoming the families of Grantham have been to me as I have gone about photographing their recovery efforts for the calendar,” says Mrs Love. “Their courage is something that I have been absolutely humbled to witness, and is something that motivates me more and more during each visit to ensure that The Constellations Project is a product not just of my own making but one that shows the heart of their community as well.”

The 14 month calendar features photography of the community and the people itself as they rebuild their lives, showing imagery of hope, courage and unity. It carries the theme throughout of “Only when it is dark enough, can you see the stars”, signifying the optimism that the people of Grantham work hard to maintain through their day to day struggles.

Mrs Love has been encouraged by shows of support from many walks of life in her endeavour to see the project to completion. “We have the support of a wonderful collection of businesses and personalities with the likes of Queensland Rail, Thiess, Wally Lewis, Premier Anna Bligh and even The Wiggles contributing in many ways to the end product,” she says. “The Wiggles in particular have been so supportive, by donating autographed items for us to auction to add to our fundraising tally, and by even offering to sell the calendar from their website for us”.

In the week following the flooding in January, The Wiggles made an unannounced visit to the town of Helidon, where Tanya was busy photographing flood affected families. By chance, she was able to capture some wonderful images of their performance and this marked the beginning of a relationship that has resulted in the children’s icons becoming such big advocates of the project.

With the printing of the calendar almost complete, pre-orders are now available through www.theconstellationsproject.com.au , and it is hoped that the initial print run of 15,000 will very quickly sell out in an effort to reach the $350,000 fundraising target that has been set. A small number of limited edition photographic art prints, featuring a selection of the calendar images, will also be available via the website as an additional form of fundraising.

Mrs Love says that whilst she is completing most of the work for the project herself, it is indeed a group effort with all of her family contributing in some way. “I am so proud to have been the founder of The Constellations Project, and can’t wait to be able to look back and say to my kids in years to come, “Look guys, we did this, together, we helped these wonderful people to rebuild their lives”. The legacy that it will leave to my children is one that I hope they will carry with them through-out their own lives”.

Tanya Love is a professional photographer in Brisbane, normally specialising in children’s fashion and portraiture under her business name of “Love Bytes”, however, her work with The Constellations Project couldn’t be of a more contrasting nature. The Constellations Project calendar retails for $30 with all proceeds going to the flood affected families of The Lockyer Valley via the Grantham Flood Support Fund and the Hope On The Hill Association.
