The Australian Labor Party is in trouble.

Opinion polls show the federal Labor Party first preference polling at near-historic lows.
The New South Wales branch is facing electoral catastrophe.

What has gone wrong?

On Tuesday 29 March the Ideas & Society Program at La Trobe University is holding a webcast conversation between the former leader of the federal Labor Party, MARK LATHAM and ROBERT MANNE, Professor of Politics at La Trobe University on What is Labour’s Future?

Mark Latham is one of the shrewdest and most independent political thinkers in the country—the author of Civilising Global Capital: NewThinking about Australian Labor; From the Suburbs: Building a Nation from our Neighbourhoods and The Latham Diaries.

Robert Manne is one of the country’s best known political commentators—the author or editor of Dear Mr Rudd: Ideas for a Better Australia; The Howard Years; and Left, Right, Left: Political Essays, 1977-2005.

The conversation will be held on TUESDAY MARCH 29 between 12.30 and 2.00 PM.

Note: those wishing to join the conversation can only do so via webcast,

Questions can be posted but there is no guarantee they will be asked or answered during the conversation.

Mr Latham is not available for interview separately from this webcast.
