Local digital and direct marketing agency is on a recruitment drive with a string of new client wins to start the new year. Having just released a new website and TVC for BankSA’s Fringe Festival sponsorship, they’ve also appointed to build the website for Arts Projects Australia’s (of Womad fame) new Earthstation Festival, and this week added the website development responsibilities for Country Arts SA to its charter.

Client Services Director Peta Pool says while the agency is looking for new talent in-house, they’re also looking to help educate their clients and the broader marketing community on the effective application of digital strategies. “We think that part of our role is to demystify the tech lingo that often surrounds digital”, she said “and sometimes there simply isn’t a business case for outsourcing everything, so upskilling our clients to take care of some of the day to day activity is really important”.

With a background in traditional and digital agencies (including a stint with Tequlia in Sydney), Pool co-lectures the Australian Direct Marketing Association’s benchmark Digital Certificate Course with fellow Via Media director and ADMA board member Jason Neave, and has just also been accepted into the Agency Mentor program being run by the Australian Direct Marketing Association - an initiative is designed to give industry newcomers guidance in a marketing services landscape that is changing faster than ever.

Social Media is one area where Pool fears that hype often clouds judgment on how best to use the channel, and advocates that businesses run most of their social media activity inhouse, “once they have a cohesive social strategy in place to govern inputs from business stakeholder groups such as PR, Legal and IT”, she adds. “Agencies like ours are certainly equipped to help with setup and even campaign activity, but to be a true voice of the business in the social media conversation, we think it’s best that person is client-side”.

Via Media is hosting this semester’s installment of ADMA’s Digital Certificate at their Tynte St offices over two blocks totalling five days, with the first intensive session kicking off on 14-15 April. Companies interested in learning about digital strategy, or wanting to keep up with the latest developments in the channel, should enrol staff online at Watch the BankSA TVC at
