Chiltern Rutherglen Continuing Education are running a series of Cooking "Masterclasses" with Chefs Sean Morris and Lisa Maher, from the Victoria Hotel Rutherglen. These fun and interactive classes take place on a Thursday evening at the Rutherglen Soldiers' Memorial Hall and involve a cooking demonstration and two course menu tasting, matched with a glass of Rutherglen wine.

Participants work with Sean and Lisa who discuss and demonstrate ingredient choice, preparation and cooking, and provide and demonstrate serving suggestions.

At the first Masterclass in 2010 participants made a lovely menu of pork veal and chicken terrine - a great springtime picnic light lunch dish - and divine vanilla macaroons. It was a smashing success.

On Thursday the 24th February 2011 participants can look forward to ‘That’s Amore!!!’ making pizza ‘pies’ and enjoying the favourite Italian dessert, Tiramisu. Va bene!

The Victoria Hotel

The Victoria Hotel, is a Rutherglen icon.
This Heritage listed building has changed little over the past 140 years and is currently being renovated to reflect its former grandure. Think lofty ceilings, crackling fireplaces, gracious verandahs, beautiful stained glass windows and a traditional Australian front bar with tap and boutique beers. Victoria Hotel is run by Sarah Pilgrim and Sean Morris who are currently renovating the hotel to reflect its former glory. The hotel offers accomodation, an award winning cycle concierge service and quality pub dining as well as more upmarket dining offer in the newly renovated dining room.

Leaving sleepy Fishguard in Wales, Chef Patron Sean Morris started his hospitality career in the kitchens of London's Claridges Hotel. After completing his training with London's Savoy Group Sean worked in the South of France where he caught the travel bug. Working in Food and Beverage management Sean travelled to Melbourne joining the Regent Hotel where he met his wife and business partner Sarah and started his love affair with Australia.

Together Sean and Sarah joined the Intercontinental Hotel Group and travelled through Europe, Africa and the Middle East managing hotels in Athens, Cairo and the United Arab Emirates. In settling back in Australia in 2006 the couple fell in love with The Vic and Rutherglen, and the hotels's potential to become one of Victoria's premiere food and wine destinations.
