Progress Receives Highest Score for Both Current Offering and Strategy
Sydney--Jan. 28, 2009--Progress Software Corporation (NASDAQ: PRGS), a leading provider of application infrastructure software to develop, deploy, integrate and manage business applications, announced today that Forrester Research, Inc. named Progress(R) Sonic(R) ESB as a leader in the enterprise service bus (ESB) market with top scores in the current offering and strategy dimensions of "The Forrester Wave(TM): Enterprise Service Buses, Q1 2009" Report.
The Forrester Research report evaluated the strengths and weaknesses of 10 top commercial and open source ESB vendors based on a comprehensive set of evaluation criteria. The report found that Progress Sonic ESB:

• "...has among the strongest set of capabilities to support geographic scalability of the ESB across a large number of nodes and physical locations."
• "...has broad support for runtime protocols, connectivity options, mediation capabilities, security, and service monitoring and management."
• "has the most comprehensive out-of-the-box support for developing and supporting both lightweight and BPEL orchestrations."
Ken Rugg, vice president and general manager, Integration Infrastructure, Progress Software , said: "This report echoes the feedback we receive from our customers, who acknowledge the tremendous competitive value they gain when using the Sonic ESB. We introduced the world's first ESB product and are proud that Forrester has named Sonic ESB a leader. Customers demand more from their IT infrastructure, especially in today's challenging economic environment: uninterrupted flow of business-critical transactions, richer functionality, higher availability, out of the box usability, and the capability to manage multi-site deployments as easily as a single data center."
"The Sonic ESB enables us to build an integrated, agile architecture with its standardized messaging capabilities," says Jan Vink, CIO and director of IT for BGN. "With the Sonic ESB, we can manage the ever-increasing velocity of our business, supporting new customers and growing our store presence both geographically and online."
