The proximity of Bali to Australia can only increase the relevance of Indonesia as an outsourcing destination to Australian organizations says Mitrais CIO and business development manager, Ms Kay Nolte.
She was commenting on Indonesia having confirmed its place in the top 5 outsourcing destinations in management consultant A.T. Kearney’s latest Global Services Location Index.
Bali-headquartered Mitrais has provided software development services for Australian companies for more than 10 years.
“Against the backdrop of increasing shortages of IT staff in Australia it is an obvious benefit for Mitrais to be in the same time zone as Perth. Equally important is the ease with which Australian IT management can travel to Bali,” Ms Nolte said.
The 2011 Global Services Location Index™ (GSLI) measures the attractiveness of offshore locations in 50 countries against 39 measures across three major categories: financial attractiveness, people skills and availability, and business environment.
According to Kearney, Asia makes a particularly strong showing in this year's Index, with India, China and Malaysia claiming the top three spots followed by Egypt then Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines in the top 9.
While India is a leader in terms of industry size, countries such as Thailand and Indonesia are continuing to improve according to Kearney.
Ms Nolte joined Mitrais in mid 2010 as part of a year’s sabbatical from her position as Chief Information Officer at South Australia’s Department of Education & Children’s Services.
Mitrais was established in 2000 to achieve excellence in software development using Indonesia as a base of operations. Its objective is to be the leading near shore provider of application development services to the Australian IT industry and a significant player in other countries. In 2004 the company entered the health industry, developing the Mitrais Medical Suite which it sells globally. In 2007 it absorbed Mincom Indoservices to extend its operations into the sale and support of mining software (in particular from Mincom) in Indonesia.
