With the arrival of the summer holidays and Australia Day looming, Gift & Homewares Australia (GHA) is providing its Members with free expert advice on holiday leave entitlements and legislation via its new human resources and industrial relations phone hotline.

Launched in July to help GHA Members gain an increased knowledge and awareness of HR/IR legislation changes and requirements, the hotline has already been fielding calls in relation to public holiday dates, entitlements and pay.

GHA Member Solutions Manager, Peter Carmody said changes to legislation presented challenges for many business owners and encouraged any Members with queries on the holiday period to take advantage of the service.

“Holidays, pay rates and tax can change from year to year and for businesses to remain on top, a comprehensive understanding of the law is necessary,” said Mr Carmody.

“The HR/IR hotline was designed to save Members valuable time and help them gain a competitive business edge, and there’s perhaps no other period when business owners are as time poor as the Christmas and New Year holidays.”

Public holiday entitlements form part of the National Employment Standards (NES), which applies to all employers and employees across Australia except for those who are employed by an unincorporated employer in Western Australia.

Staffed by a team of human resource professionals with expert knowledge in the requirements of small business and the gift and homewares industry, the HR/IR hotline is available to GHA Members year-round during business hours, Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm.

Other areas of specialisation include occupational health and safety, workers’ compensation, superannuation, industrial relations, employment conditions and law, and human resources management.
