Smith's on Bayswater - Butcher & Wine Merchant is the latest venture from restaurateur Kingsley Smith. A modern steakhouse with a focus on great cuts of meat and wine matching, Smith's opens for business Tuesday November 30, reservations are only available by booking online in real time at or at

"With a name like Smith you better make sure you can stand out in the crowd," said owner Kingsley Smith. "We see the way forward for restaurants, like many other businesses, is by embracing technology and Smith's Butcher & Wine Merchant will be what I believe to be Australia's first restaurant without a phone. Every booking will be managed online in real-time through Dimmi."

Stevan Premutico, founder and Managing Director of Dimmi added, "This is an exciting initiative for the Australian restaurant industry. Only 12 months ago we introduced online bookings into the market and now we have one of Australia’s leading restaurateurs throwing out the phone and only accepting bookings online." Stevan continued, "For a diner this means that they no longer have to wait for a call back for confirmation of their reservation. By booking with Dimmi they get an instant email which confirms their booking, a reminder email and a guaranteed booking when they arrive."

Kingsley continued, “Having successfully launched the Kingsleys and ChopHouse brands across the country, I have been in the industry a long time and my experience has taught me that we must embrace new technologies and adapt to new customer habits. Technology is certainly the way forward for the industry. Through the Dimmi Restaurant Booking Network, Smiths' can reach up to 6 million diners each month looking for somewhere to eat, this is through the 35 partner websites such as The Good Food Guide, TrueLocal and TimeOut. In addition I can manage all my bookings remotely, remove the hassle and labour intensive nature of phone reservations”

Smith’s on Bayswater will throw out the traditional reservation book and replace this with iPads for floor staff to manage all bookings and seat diners. Having this technology on the floor of the restaurant means that during service staff can meet, greet and seat diners in one fluid movement. It also helps keep them focused on diners rather than the phone calls, and seating availability is updated seamlessly through the entire service period with no interruption. In addition it means customers preferences' can be stored in the Dimmi diary to ensure the steak will be cooked to your liking without you saying a word on your next dining experience at Smith's.

Smith's on Bayswater is open for dinner from Tuesday November 30, 7 nights from 5pm til late. To book go to or at
