NEC Australia today announced that two of ThoughtWare’s customers are live on NEC’s aged care industry endorsed cloud platform.

Barunga Village and Wami Kata Old Folks Home, both located in regional areas of South Australia, are using ThoughtWare’s Care software on NEC’s industry endorsed cloud platform.

David Cooke, NEC’s Head of Health & Aged Care Solutions said: “NEC’s cloud platform will help more regional aged care facilities access quality IT solutions to enhance productivity, something that is becoming ever more crucial in the face of an ageing population.”

ThoughtWare’s CEO Sonja Bernhardt said: “The advantage of hosting the Care software on the NEC cloud platform is that small regional facilities can access a range of telephony, security and data management solutions from NEC without having to invest in costly infrastructure. It is much more cost effective, easier and accessible for aged care providers.

“While Wami Kata and Barunga Village can improve their governance, risk and compliance analysis and reporting using Care, they can also access NEC’s hosted email, intranet, contact centre, collaboration and contract management applications to further improve productivity and reduce costs,” Mrs Bernhardt said.

Both aged care facilities will receive business grade broadband, through NEC’s extensive national broadband network. The high performance network provides reliable connectivity allowing intensive applications like video to become possible.

An advantage of NEC’s dedicated environment is that users can login via a single entry point to access all the hosted applications an organisation uses, creating a more efficient and productive work environment as users login only once. NEC handles the authentication for each individual permission.

NEC servers are maintained and supported in NEC Australia’s secure data centres with redundancy, back-up and disaster recovery services. Mrs Bernhardt said ThoughtWare had decided to partner with NEC as it recognised the value of hosting its solution on the NEC cloud platform.

“In an overburdened, over worked world we're about making life easier and doing what makes sense,” Mrs Bernhardt said. "Partnering with NEC is exactly that – it is about delivering great applications like Care via sophisticated infrastructure in a simple, easy, accessible way; it makes sense. We're thrilled to be involved."

In July this year NEC announced an exclusive ICT partnership with Australia’s two aged care peak bodies – Aged Care Association Australia (ACAA) and Aged & Community Services Australia (ACSA) – to advance the use of Cloud computing in the Aged Care Industry.

David Cooke, NEC’s Head of Health & Aged Care Solutions said NEC was helping to bring more effective ICT solutions to aged care facilities through its industry endorsed cloud platform.

“We’re providing a platform that opens up additional routes to market without application developers having to create their own cloud computing offering from scratch,” Mr Cooke said.
