Independent Christian charity, HammondCare, is asking Lower North Shore residents to vote with their feet in support of palliative care on Sunday 31st October by joining the annual Jacaranda Walk.

Spring means Greenwich’s magnificent Jacarandas are starting to bloom, and HammondCare is hoping to raise $50,000 for vital equipment for the Palliative Care Service at Greenwich Hospital by inviting participants to join either a 2 kilometre or 5 kilometre walk among the trees.

The walk will begin at 10AM at the Hospital, at 97-115 River Road, and wind its way through the streets of Greenwich, finishing back in the leafy grounds of the Hospital for a special garden party celebration with a BBQ lunch, live music and entertainment, including face painting and pony rides.

People can support the cause by walking and inviting family and friends to sponsor them; by sponsoring a friend, colleague or relative who is completing the walk; or by making a donation even if they don’t know anyone who is walking.

They can also remember a loved one by planting a seedling in the Memorial Garden.

Spokesperson said: “HammondCare depends on support from the community so that we can continue providing high quality, sustainable healthcare services at Greenwich Hospital for the benefit of people who are in serious need on the Lower North Shore.”

Palliative care supports patients facing the final stages of their life because of illness, and their families, by providing relief from symptoms or pain management. The money raised will go towards the purchase of vital equipment such as Syringe Drivers, which safely administer medication at a constant and controlled rate, which is vital in providing relief to patients.

HammondCare provides Palliative and Supportive Care Services through its in-patients wards as well as through in-home community care services.

For more information about registering, sponsoring or donating, go to www.hammondcare.com.au/jacarandawalk, or call 02 8280-8488.

Limited parking will be available in the grounds of the hospital on the day.
