Young international swimming sensation Emily Seebohm is the latest to join Kia Motors Australia’s ambassador program taking delivery of a new Kia Cerato Koup.

Emily shot to fame in 2006 when at the age of just 14 she won the Australian 100m backstroke title in a dead heat.

Since then she has claimed the national backstroke title each year. In 2010 she added the 50m backstroke championship to her resume.

“Emily is a duel world record holder in the 4 x 100m medley relay and the current 100m and 50m backstroke national champion and Australian record holder in the longer distance,” Kia Motors Australia President and CEO Mr MK Kim said.

“We are delighted to welcome her to the family as a Kia ambassador and wish her every success particularly in October this year when she represents Australia at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.”

The new car is an automatic Cerato Koup and one of the latest generation vehicles produced by the Korean manufacturer. It comes standard with a long list of safety features including six front, side and curtain airbags, anti-lock and Brake Assist systems and Electronic Stability Program (ESP).

The Cerato Koup also comes with RPAS (rear parking assist system) to help avoid contact with pedestrians and other obstacles when reversing.

Emily uses her new sporty two-door Koup to get to and from her nine training sessions per week, a combination of swimming and gym work.

“My parents were so happy when I got my licence last year, it meant an end to the 4.30am starts for them,” Emily said. “Now, I have even greater independence with my own car, and it’s not just red – it’s Racing Red. How appropriate!”

”I absolutely love the car. It’s zippy, comfortable and I can plug my iPod straight into it. And the timing is perfect. I’ve only just turned 18 so it was a great present. Mum is also really happy. For the past ten years she has been dropping me to training each morning well before sun rise. She’s certainly enjoying my independence too.”

Emily trains out of Nudgee College with Brothers swimming club and Coach Matt Brown. She also enjoys the support of the Queensland Institute of Sport.
