Gardening Good for Body and Soul
Award winning Maida Vale nursery Zanthorrea will host a ‘Garden RELEAF Weekend’ on the 9th and 10th of April 2016 to raise funds for beyondblue and promote the enormous positive health benefits of gardening on depression and anxiety.
“A recent beyondblue research report titled ‘Beyond Blue to Green’ confirmed that time spent in the outdoors can help tackle anxiety and depression, obesity and coronary heart disease,” said Zanthorrea Nursery Director Ross Hooper.
“It also found children who spent time in green spaces had higher levels of self-worth and social, emotional and cognitive development,”
“Getting out in the garden and open green spaces is not only good for your physical health, but your mental health and wellbeing as well.”
“Our Garden RELEAF Weekend will be full of fun with displays to encourage people to get into the garden and get planting,” said Mr Hooper.
Activities will include competitions, face painting, craft activities and morning tea will be served both days between 10am and 12 noon.
“Autumn is a busy time of year for us in the garden, with plenty of colour and we hope to raise awareness and stimulate everyone’s senses with our inspiring display gardens, Mr Hooper said.
In 2015, Zanthorrea Nursery won the Environmental Business of the Year Award in the Kalamunda Chamber of Commerce Awards.
