In front of an audience of over 360 attendees, Melissa’s Supermarket was one of the many Western Australian small business winners in the 29th Belmont & Western Australian Small Business Awards 2022 on Wednesday, 26th of October 2022. Held in the ballroom of the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre, the ‘Night of Stars Event’ celebrated excellence in business and community achievement.
The welcome address was delivered by City of Belmont Mayor, Cr Phil Marks, together with our MC’s for the evening, Member for Belmont, Cassie Rowe MLA, and Belmont BEC Inc. Patron Louise Percy. Entertainment was provided by Kaylene Taylor, with Welcome to Country by Daniel Garlett. The WA Designer Showcase Fashion Parade featured stunning local designs from CIZZY Bridal Australia, Silver Star Designs, Jilalga Designs, Afrojordan Boutique and Miss Scarlett.
Melissa’s Supermarket offers consumer goods imported from the Philippines and other Asian countries to the growing Filipino community in Perth. The shop has accommodated spaces for allied services like money transfer, immigration consulting alongside the large range of food and other products on offer. The business has now brought Filipino cuisine to Westfield Carousel via their colourful food truck. Owner Melissa has recently started a discussion group for women which focuses on helping empower Filipino women in the community.
The Innovation & Creativity Award is supported by the Designedge Innovation Festival. Now in its 18th year, the festival was established by Belmont BEC & TCFWA as an annual Festival that includes workshops, webinars, events, forums and networking opportunities showcasing free topics on cyber security and exporting, global business entrepreneurs, innovators, designers, creatives, industry associations, and women in business networking events.
