Adelaide, 9 May, 2022: Orienteering SA is proud to announce that Coach-in-Residence Evalin Brautigam has been appointed to coach the USA’s Junior World Orienteering Championships (JWOC) training squad, as well as being selected for the USA’s elite World Orienteering Championships (WOC) sprint team.
The appointment follows the announcement that five members of Ms Brautigam’s elite training squad have been selected to national teams that will represent Australia at three major international events this year: the World Orienteering Championships in Denmark in June; Junior World Orienteering Championships to be held in Portugal in July; and the World University Championships to be held in Switzerland in August.
Orienteering is an international sport in which competitors navigate independently through urban or bush terrain to complete a course in the shortest time possible. Competitors must visit a number of physical* control points highlighted on a special orienteering map, which is not revealed to competitors until they start.
*MapRun is a new mobile phone app that enables orienteering control points to be set virtually on a map, with audible alerts when the orienteer is in the vicinity of the control.
