Many small businesses are missing out on valuable growth opportunities because they lack visibility online.

“Having an online presence and featuring prominently on Google and the other search engines’ ranking pages is becoming more and more critical to business success,” says SEO specialist Karen Dauncey.  “Businesses need to be found online or they’ll lose out to their competitors.  It’s as simple as that.”

Ms Dauncey spotted a gap in the market for an easy-to-do SEO course that would equip small business owners with the skills and tools to set-up and run their own SEO programme.

She is launching her new DIY course, The SEO School ®, in early 2021 and has specifically designed it to teach small business owners the basics of SEO and enable them to implement the key components to get their business seen on Google Maps and upfront on the search engine ranking pages.

“Over the years, I’ve come across so many small businesses that were struggling to get new leads and missing out on growth opportunities, but which were able to recover strongly after putting a solid SEO strategy in place.  There’s definitely a gap in the market for this type of resource that demystifies SEO and turns it into a valuable growth strategy.”

The SEO School covers the main aspects of SEO and online marketing including keyword research, setting up Google accounts, establishing back links and content creation.

“Many small businesses operate within their local area, so it’s critical for them to come up on the search engine pages, Google My Business and Google Maps when a potential customer searches online for their local niche type business.  This course will help put their website front and centre for relevant keyword searches.”

A central focus of the course is helping business owners set up and use their Google accounts to their best advantage.   “Free online tools such as Google My Business can be hugely effective in putting a business right in front of a potential customer.  It’s about knowing what, how and when to do things,” she added.

Participants get practical, hands-on experience of SEO with video tutorials, a workbook and worksheets and plenty of support through a Facebook group, a Q&A facility and a weekly Facebook live session with Ms Dauncey.

The course is self-managed so participants can work through the content at their own pace and gain confidence in their abilities and their progress before taking the next step, Ms Dauncey said.

“Participants really only need a couple of hours’ work a week to get through all the content,” said Ms Dauncey.  “Thereafter, they’ll  be able to maintain and boost their online presence using the skills and techniques acquired from the course - and I have absolutely no doubt that participants will be highly motivated to take things further once they see the early results and realise that doing their own SEO is very manageable.”

“SEO is a growth strategy for the longer-term and this investment in a few hours’ work a week will reap dividends for sustainable business success.”

The competitive landscape for businesses of all sizes is becoming increasingly challenging and online visibility is fundamental to broadening a customer base and boosting profitability.  “I have had so many clients who were passionate about both their business and their industry but who weren’t able to capitalise on their brand and tap into new markets simply because they lacked computer skills,” she added.  “Now is the time to change all that with The SEO School.”
