Monday, September 28th, 2020 - Girl Guides SA

When Robert Baden-Powell created the Girl Guide motto ‘Be Prepared’ in 1910 he could not have anticipated it applying to the mental and physical challenges of COVID-19 in 2020.

In true Guiding spirit, Girl Guides South Australia have adapted to the corona virus environment and created ‘Virtual Guiding’, the 2020 re-interpretation of Lone Guides. Where isolated girls in the 1960’s enjoyed connection and programmes via brown paper parcel through the post, (even by train or bus), in the same ethos, technology now offers all girls connection to the Guiding community and awesome experiences anytime, anywhere throughout South Australia, on-line.

With a mission to empower girls and young women to become confident, self-respecting and responsible community members, Girl Guides provides opportunities to grow, learn, make new friends and importantly have fun in safe, relevant and meaningful ways.

With the launch of ‘Virtual Guiding’, any girl in South Australia unable to attend ‘Unit’ face-to-face meetings on a regular basis can become a Girl Guide and enjoy activities, programmes and virtual events to inspire, engage, connect with each other and the wider community.

A Girl Guide journey to discover more of self and the world around offers opportunities to build resilience, confidence and self-esteem, develop leadership skills, embrace diversity and appreciation of others, learn the importance of a healthy lifestyle and of caring for the environment.
