Houston Marriott North Announces Participation in Clean the World(R)

HOUSTON, TX -- (Marketwired) -- Nov 16, 2015 -- In recognizing the importance of green initiatives to world sustainability, a hotel in Houston, Texas is no longer throwing lightly used soaps into the trash during the daily housekeeping of its 390 guest rooms.

Bringing new life to used hotel soap, the Houston Marriott North has become a proud participating partner in Clean the World®, a global project impacting millions of people around the world.

Discarded soap bars and plastic bottles are no longer going into the trash and ultimately local landfills, as housekeepers at the prominent hotel in North Houston now collect the barely used products. As collection bins fill, the products are shipped to a Clean the World Recycling Center where products are sorted, surface cleaned, sterilized, ground and remanufactured into new bars. Soap is then distributed worldwide to those in need through partnerships with non-governmental organizations including World Vision, Feeding America, Harvest Time International, Children's International and The Floating Doctors.

Clean the World maintains testing validated by SGS North America to ensure that all bars of recycled soap are safe and free of disease or pathogens and completely safe for end users.

By giving soap a "second life," the hotel near Spring, Texas is able to help with the integration of a comprehensive water, sanitation and hygiene program for millions of impoverished people in developing countries who otherwise would go without proper sanitation. While the donations are helping to prevent hygiene-related deaths each year, the recycled products are also being distributed domestically to homeless shelters.

In addition to the huge impact Clean the World is making in reducing the morbidity rate for hygiene-related illnesses, the program supported by the newly renovated Houston Marriott North also encourages healthy childhood development.
