Carol Hanlon, Founder/CEO, Belmont BEC (BEC Global) BPW Business Incubator, and TCF WA (TCF Global) was interviewed recently by “Women Shine” magazine, a global e-magazine founded by Aparna Mishra, who also founded the Community of Women Entrepreneurs hub.
Women Shine focusses on women undertaking wonderful work around the globe. Topics include art & culture, beauty & fashion, and entrepreneurship.
Ms Hanlon was selected to be interviewed for the international magazine because she has dedicated more than 45 years to the fashion industry in Australia (and additionally runs Belmont Business Enterprise Centre in Australia which assists small businesses across all industries).
Ms Hanlon said, “ My extensive entrepreneurial life began in the late 1960’s in the famous Flinders Lane Melbourne and later in Geelong, Victoria. From 1973 to 1993 I ran my own fashion design business, managing all design, manufacturing, wholesale, retail and export components.”
Carol Hanlon moved to Perth in 1993 and became the founding manager of the non-profit, community-based Belmont Business Enterprise Centre Inc. (BEC) in 1994, which assists people both starting new businesses and helps the growth of already established businesses through advisory, training and mentoring support. Ms Hanlon also identified a need to inspire WA’s youth to start their own businesses and began running workshops for aspiring young entrepreneurs. She also established a Clothes Library for the unemployed to borrow corporate garments for job interviews.
Ms Hanlon said, “By 1998 I was utilising my expertise in the textile and fashion industries by opening the Textile Clothing Footwear Resource Centre of WA Inc. (TCFWA), a not-for-profit national support centre run from headquarters in Belmont, providing fashion business support, specialised resources, projects and online services and training.”
Other highlights in Ms Hanlon’s career include:
- 2011 convening 3rd Annual International Fashion Incubator Conference in Perth.
- 2011 Inducted into the inaugural WA Women’s Hall of Fame.
