Keeping captivated through Covid - a psychologist's guide to survive and thrive - free for everyone

Leading Sydney Clinical Psychologist Dr Aileen Alegado has written a survival guide for COVID-19, and has made it free and downloadable online to help anyone who is struggling during this stressful time.

Ever since the world went into lockdown- we’ve been bombarded with contradictory messages on how to deal with the spread of COVID-19 on a psychological level and to take care of our wellbeing. We have some experts telling us to use this time for self-work, while others are saying just get through the best way we can- and it leaves us feeling even more confused and isolated than we did before, in a time of such confusion and isolation.

Dr Alegado, was hearing these messages from her clients, so decided to do something about it. She’s used her time in lockdown to write an easy to follow guide that has all the answers and strategies you need to take care of your mental health during this global pandemic. She has done all the legwork to translate well researched studies into practical and understandable concepts that will be useful during this time.

“My clients came to me asking for some advice and resources, but when I looked at the different ones on offer I realised much of what they said was conflicting, which created confusion and that’s something we don’t need in a time when everyone has heightened anxiety. So I put hands to keyboard and before I knew it this e-book was written. I want to make it available to anyone who needs it, so have made it free and easily downloadable. If it can make even the smallest difference to people it is my pleasure to have it there and available.”

The key areas she looks at are:

  • How to embrace change
  • The importance of routine
  • Managing fear of fear
  • Mindfulness
  • Self Actualisation
  • Parenting through a pandemic
  • Unpacking “keeping safe”
  • Keeping a check on your mental health.

“I believe that if you have the ability then you have the responsibility. I wanted to create something that might help people deal with the overwhelming information out there in the media/internet by simplifying  concepts with a psychological slant. To give a message of hope and turn this crisis into opportunities.”
