In partnership with the Wine Academy and MOSH Australia
Fundraiser being held at Red Rhino Room, 18 January 2020 from 6pm
Join us for a special night to welcome the new year and raise $ for the bushfire appeal.
We entered this bushfire fundraiser appeal with massive hearts and good intentions to support wherever we could. We figured a little extra fundraising wouldn't go astray.
What we've heard along the way though are stories of desperate grief, shock, exhaustion, bewilderment and a great need for respite which isn't coming any time soon.
The former Chairman of Suicide Prevention Australia and the National Coalition for Suicide Prevention, Matthew Tukaki, has said this bush fire season has not only been “physically devastating it’s also going to be a test of mental health endurance and resilience”.
Charlie-Helen Robinson, Unearthing Wine’s Founder, says, “What we know from experience and bushfire history is a long road ahead to rebuild the community back to some semblance of normal which can take months, sometimes years. All while the community is still dealing with immediate threats and triggers of ongoing grief.”
AMA President, Dr Tony Bartone, said that the Emergency and Disaster Declarations in NSW and Victoria, and the ongoing dangerous situations in Queensland, Tasmania, South Australia, and Western Australia, bring with them new health risks of compounded exposure to smoke, heat, fatigue, and stress.
He says, “The mental health burden of this disaster on our communities will be considerable.”
It is with this in mind, Unearthing Wines took the decision to team with MOSH Australia Founder Jill Chapman, to work through the most appropriate, resourceful and respected way we can support our community in the immediate, but most importantly, long term way.
The money raised on this night will be channelled to those organisations who provide the community with wellness and mental health support.
This 18th January 2020 event will kick off at 600pm with wine tasting from local SA wineries such as XO Wine Co, Manyara (both Adelaide Hills), Berg Herring (McLaren Vale) and Langmeil Winery (Barossa).
Local Adelaide pub band 'The Groove' will kick us into gear for the night with a set starting at 630pm.
To break the night, Becky Blake (Chunky Custard and Piano Chick fame) and Steve Davis (Talk About Marketing and the Adelaide Podcast Show) will pop on stage at 800pm to perform a snippet from their Adelaide Fringe Comedy, 'Innuendo Everywhere'.
Then, with some of the best musical theatre people in the country from both “the pit” and “the stage” you will witness the launch of a Sneaky Little Band.
This group of musicians have created a big, bad, fat brassy sound with guest singers that would be very familiar for those who frequent musical theatre in Adelaide. Names such as Matt Redmond on keyboard, Andrew Edgeworth and John Nicholson on trumpets, Gregg Eustice on bass and Ben Todd and Lance Jones on guitars, and Nicole Molloy on Saxophone will be backed by Sonia Radford and Corinne Eustice on drums and percussion. Out front will be the stellar voices of Gaz Davis, Natasha Scholey and Helen Wheadon.
Let’s make it the start of a journey and walk hand in hand with those among us who are struggling.
