Steve Morrison returns to the Mountains for NYE
Molls & Gangsters at le Salon Grand Cabaret & Theatre

31st December 2019 – 8pm

Steve Morrison (Double & electric bass player) grew up in the blue mountains and is honoured to return for New Year’s Eve this year to host a ‘Great Gatsby’ style evening at le Salon Grand Cabaret & Theatre. As we welcome in the new ‘20s, everyone’s invited to, In Steve’s words: “…celebrate with the old ‘20s!”

NYE is a great event for musicians. However, Steve says, “…if I play in the city, I’m likely to have to unload by 9am and then not be allowed out until 5am the following morning.”

But this year, the opportunity to play at the amazing room in the Palais Royal in Katoomba was irresistible. Once in the room, Steve saw the amazing opportunity. “This is a room I’ve never been in or played in, but it’s amazing! I’ve played almost every room in the Mountains, but I can’t believe this is the first time I’ve seen this gem.”

The Gatsby-inspired party is intended to be a pre-fest warm-up for the official Blue Mountains Roaring ‘20s Festival which is hosted annually in February. The Festival’s regular features include the Charleston Challenge and Long Lunch at the Hydro Majestic, and the Carrington’s Annual Great Art Deco Ball. This year is a special year given it is the centenary of the original ‘20s American Prohibition which began on January 17, 1920, when the Volstead Act went into effect.

The Palais Royale’s Grand Ballroom has been renamed le Salon Grand in keeping with the room’s Rocaille (or French Rococo) styling. It was designed with the Palace of Versailles in mind. The room, managed by Entertainment Blue Mountains, is arguably the most beautiful venue in Katoomba, if not the Blue Mountains.

NYE will be a great fun night with canapés and drinks from as little as $89, or $115 if you want a premium reserved seat all night. Steve and his band will bring out the Roaring ‘20s with the fun of Gatsby and the party-vibe to match.

Since the recent new version of the movie ‘Great Gatsby’, Steve has been inspired by his good friend Jeff Duff, who featured in the movie, to recapture the mood and fun of the ‘20s with whichever band he is with.

This NYE Steve will front a top-class band featuring some of Australia’s best musicians, including Mike Hammond who is possibly the only musician in the world who plays both trumpet and tenor sax at a world-class level.
