The sound of rally cars could be heard across the picturesque Adelaide Hills yesterday as teams competed in Heat 2 for valuable championship points.  With recent rain on the fast roads the CAMS Australian Rally Championship’s fifth round was slippery and very competitive

Competing in the Australian Rally Championship series in the 2WD class is Trevor Stilling, a veteran of car rallying and winner of the 2017 classic rally challenge series.  Stilling was aiming to win his class and gain further points in the 2WD category of the Australian Rally Championship series improving on his second-place win at Ballarat last month. Stilling found the first stage of the second heat slippery but changing to new tyres improved the grip and Stilling went on to  win the 2WD class in the Adelaide CAMS Australian Rally Championship event.

“It was a very tough rally we had everything rain, fast roads and tight bends’ “At the end I just decided to go for it”  It was tough on the car but I had an excellent support team who kept the car running to make it to the finish” Stilling said.

Stilling was joined by experienced navigator Larisa Biggar, from Queensland, who joined Stilling on the winner’s podium.  ‘Larisa is a very experienced navigator and provided significant support to the team’, said Stilling.

Stilling’s distinctive red Cooma Nissan Silvia was a crowd pleaser but almost did not make it to the start if not for the support of local Mt Barker business, Mechanical and Exhaust, who provided last minute repairs to the Nissan before the event.

After the event Stilling said ‘I wanted to keep the pressure on my main rival in the competition, who started Car 17, unfortunately he crashed in stage three on Sunday so after that it was time to drive conservatively’.  ‘Without the support from our sponsors we would not be here, so it feels good to be able bring home a class win, said Stilling.

Trevor Stilling will be competing in the final round of the Australian Rally Championship at Coffs Harbour from 14-17 November to contest the 2WD championship aboard the Manning Kalaru, Endurance Automotive, Waterhouse Performance, Simply Music Management, V-Sport Canberra Cooma Nissan Silvia.
