New CEO Al Jawhari brings a wealth of experience to the RLD Group, Adelaide-based manufacturers of high-performance products under the Lightforce and Nightforce brands, with capabilities across a diverse set of high-tech disciplines including electronic engineering, precision optics design, rapid prototyping, gunsmithing, ceramic coating and other additive manufacturing processes.
“Al’s experience and entrepreneurial mindset will be a tremendous asset to our business,” says founder Dr. Ray Dennis. “His diversified career has spanned innovation in aeronautical and mechanical engineering, and precision manufacturing across various technology niches.
“He also has a deep understanding of retail, e-commerce, software services and the commercialisation of transformative technologies. Crucially, he brings a deep understanding of the defence sector, thanks to his 18 years of service in the Egyptian Air Force, where he attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.”
“I’m proud and excited to join the RLD Group, an innovative business with amazing capabilities,” Jawhari says. “We will continue to rejuvenate manufacturing across different industry sectors. As South Australia continues to recover from the loss of automotive manufacturing, we will move as quickly as we can to build further capacity in defence, nationally and internationally, which we see as one of the crucial verticals for future growth in South Australia.
“The South Australian Government has been smart in making the effort to bring defence-focused organisations to the state. We have incredible talent, passion and competence in our business, a strong foundation for state-of-the-art innovative manufacturing.”
Jawhari comes to the RLD Group from his former position as Chief Technology Officer at PwC Food Trust. Previous roles include leadership positions at Beston Global Food Company, e-commerce platform Nefsak, and the world’s largest date company AlFoah.
He has also founded or co-founded a number of successful startups, including aerospace and defence R&D software company WORX, food and beverage retail software specialist Cuisine POS Technologies and retail management software firm BACK&FRONT.
He has worked across the globe, including the Middle East and North Africa, United States, Europe and Australasia, and now lives in the Adelaide Hills with his wife and two children.
With a strong track record of taking new concepts to commercial viability, Jawhari sees innovation as key to building a platform for sustainability in manufacturing.
“Leadership in that space allows for the creation of more jobs, and importantly, more sustainable jobs that will persist in the long term. People see our products and say they are the best they’ve seen. With advances in materials and technology, we can bring all our capabilities to the fore and continue to bring new product lines to market that are state-of-the-art.
“Lightforce competes on a global level, producing some of the best products in the world. Quality and innovation are in our DNA. With empowerment, resources, aggressive marketing and speed to market, we will gain even more traction in the future.”
