We all know that mental health and resilience is important. But you might not know that 77 per cent of workers' compensation claims are about mental health issues, or that the average payout is $24,500 (the average of claims is $9,000). You might not know that one person per month in the construction industry commits suicide as a result of poor workplace culture and bullying. You might be shocked to learn that only 52% of workers believe that their workplaces are mentally healthy, and that 1/5 of all workers in SA have taken time off this year for mental health reasons.
This is why Training x Design is offering the first ever public ORANGES program, on 22-23 October.
This unique, 2-day program equips participants with the knowledge and practical tools to be more resilient, optimistic, productive, efficient, and happier at work.
Gina Brooks, Director of Training x Design and the only accredited ORANGES facilitator in SA, said that the event is due to public demand.
"Many organisations just want to send two people before committing their workplace to the program," she said. "This public program is the only way you can experience the program before deciding whether it's right for your workplace."
This event happens in the fortnight after Mental Health Week, and just 12 days after World Mental Health Day. All organisations will benefit from sending teams to this session.

The ORANGES program has been successfully implemented by Haigh's, Safework SA, the Department of Public Prosecutions, Telstra, the SA Attorney General's Department, Commonwealth Superannation Corporation, the NRL, KPMG, and many more.
Developed by The Langley Group, who are world leaders in positive psychology, neuroscience and emotional intelligence, the program is based on academic research.
Highly interactive, the two days gives you 7 full-length workshops in each ORANGES segment: Optimism, Resilience, Attitude, Now (mindfulness), Gratitude, Energy and Strengths.
Offered at an entry-level prices, this full ORANGES program helps you become your best self, while supporting Camp Quality. Proceeds from this event will be donated; your participation creates a better life for children impacted by cancer.
Achieving a mentally healthy workplace is as simple as having the right toolkit, and knowing how to use it.
According to Guarding Minds @ Work, a mentally healthy workplace
is a place where people can work smart, contribute their best efforts, be recognised for their work, and go home at the end of the day with energy left over.
It sounds simple. But the truth is, you need the right framework to create such a workplace.
And the problem is that our most visible business leaders are not aware of these frameworks.
This is something that Gina found when she attended the SA Mental Health Commission's 5-Day Workplace Challenge Launch on Thursday 20 September 2018.
'All businesses need people who can manage increasing workplace demands and manage stress effectively,' Gina said afterwards. 'But there isn't enough curiosity about the root cause of problems. Instead, people are simply encouraged to eat well, get more sleep, and go for a walk. It's just not enough, and it doesn't help.'
To optimise performance, improve engagement, trust and productivity, you need to have the right tools. The right tools start with the right attitude, and they begin with the individual.
The toolkit that businesses need is ORANGES
The ORANGES program creates optimistic and resilient workplaces, by giving their employees the tools and methods to become both optimistic and resilient. It is a science-based framework that is creating a quiet, seismic shift in organisations nationally.
And it's time that South Australian companies got on board.
'We've had a lot of success in the past 18 months, delivering ORANGES to lots of organisations in all industries, both public and private sector and not-for-profit,' Gina explained. 'It's the most impactful program an organisation can do to help people cope with change.'
But change isn't the only reason why ORANGES is the program to create the change needed in South Australian businesses.
'Many companies that we have worked with are going through substantial growth. You need a resilient and optimistic workforce to deal with the acceleration in workload. It's also your first requirement if you are going to be successful in implementing your business strategy. Stressed, worried, negative employees don't deliver. In fact, they cost us money.'

Results were astounding, and leading indicators such as staff turnover and sick leave immediately and sustainably improved.
ORANGES has now been adopted by many of Australia's leading corporations, sports bodies and government departments. Case studies and testimonials are available which confirm outstanding acceptance and concrete results. ##
