Thursday, July 19th, 2018 - Monash Live

Known for their memorable hooks, sweet guitar licks and lush blend of dream pop and soft rock, Sydney-based indie rock outfit Middle Kids will be headlining Live at the Alex as part of WinterFest 2018 at Monash University’s Clayton Campus on Wednesday 15 August.

After propelling to global recognition when Elton John played their debut single ‘Edge of Town’ on his Beats 1 radio show in 2017, Middle Kids have since released their debut album Lost Friends which has seen them perform on Jimmy Kimmel Live as part of their recent US tour, and earlier this year, a sell-out concert at the Sydney Opera House.

An exclusive Melbourne performance after their stint at Splendour in the Grass alongside musical heavyweights including Kendrick Lamar and Lorde, and the European leg of their world tour, Middle Kids will be performing at Monash University’s newly redeveloped Alexander Theatre, boasting a sleek and contemporary fit out by award-winning architects Peter Elliott Architecture and Urban Design. The new modernist-inspired theatre also features an active acoustic system delivering the world’s best practice in acoustic sound performance, which is sure to place audiences in an euphoric state as every drum kick, rousing vocal and rich electronic texture is elevated and amplified.

Created as part of WinterFest, a cross-campus festival featuring live music, dance parties, food trucks and a massive family-friendly winter carnival with fireworks, Live at the Alex is a series of performances developed especially for the Monash community and those young at heart, aiming to celebrate and showcase the most dynamic up-and-coming contemporary artists.

Produced in association with the Monash Student Association (MSA) and Campus Community Division, this first installation of Live at the Alex featuring Middle Kids—with support soon to be announced—is set to be a biting and electric performance not to be missed.
