MELBOURNE—Principal mortgage broker Edwena Dixon of Pinpoint Finance has joined forces with Lincoln and Veronique Wulff of the Dandelion Wishes Gala, helping organise the fundraising event for 2018.

The event will take place on the 23rd of February at the Crown Palladium.

Co-founder Lincoln Wolff describes the event as the “Monash Children’s Hospital’s version” of the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday appeal, which has been in operation since 1932. Monash Children’s Hospital opened its doors to patients in 2016.

This year, the Dandelion Wishes Gala hopes to raise money to purchase an Echocardiograph for children’s cardiac care.  Although current technology provides quality imaging, the new ECHO uses Trans Oesophageal Echo (TOE) to provide a three-dimensional view of a child’s heart, which can be as small as a fingernail in premature births.

“What many people don’t know is that the Royal Children’s Hospital appeal only raises money for that particular hospital,” Mr. Wolff said. “The scary fact is that RCH and Monash see about 50/50 of the tertiary admissions in Victoria, which means more acute cases. That’s 130,000 in total, of which 63,000 were seen by Monash.”

Mr. Wolff and wife Veronique launched the gala last year in appreciation for the MCH saving the lives of their two premature babies, Ashton and Madeleine.

The first year’s donations went towards providing in-bed entertainment and communications platforms. This helps connect children, who may be away from home for long stretches of time, to families and classrooms. The funds also went toward a first-in-Australia Humidi-crib, which transports premature babies from the delivery suite to the intensive care unit, drastically improving chances of survival.

“Right now, we rely purely on our own donors to raise funds,” Mr. Wolff added.

“The Dandelion Wishes Gala is not only a great event but a worthy cause,” Ms. Dixon said. “As admissions to Monash Children’s increase, the need for new equipment and funding will grow. We need to raise awareness of the great work these dedicated staff do every day, and encourage more people to help out.”

The night will be hosted by special guest MCs as part of their media partnership with Channel 9.
