VetEd Down Under discovers new ways to teach vets
The inaugural Australasian Veterinary Educators Symposium or VetEd Down Under, held this week at the Roseworthy campus, brings together experts in veterinary education from around Australia and overseas.
In 2008 the University of Adelaide’s School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences admitted its first cohort of undergraduates to the Roseworthy campus. Now 237 graduates and 10 years later it is bringing together people who want to discover innovative ways to improve veterinary education.
“The aim of VetEd Down Under is to promote veterinary education in the Australia and New Zealand region, through inclusive sharing of research, innovation and best practice, says curriculum coordinator at the School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences and symposium convener,” Dr Bridgette Shackelford.
The symposium will be attended by 80 veterinary educators from Australia, New Zealand, Germany, the US and UK.
“This symposium – a meeting of the best minds in vet education – demonstrates that the school has come of age,” says Professor Wayne Hein, Head of the School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences and Dean of Roseworthy campus.
“Previously, educators wanting to connect with people of a similar calibre and background would have had to travel overseas,” says Professor Hein.
