A NIGHT of free entertainment is on offer from the City of Bayswater on June 5 with the annual community concert at the Morley Sport and Recreation Centre.

Now in its 20th year, the concert features the Colla Voce Choir, North of Perth Music Festival winners and City of Bayswater music scholarships recipients.

“The occasion provides young musicians with a platform to gain valuable live performance experience in front of an appreciative audience,” Bayswater Mayor Terry Kenyon said.

“All of the evening’s performers have enormous potential and a great future ahead of them, making for a top quality night of entertainment.

“Many talented people began their road to fame in music and drama through North of Music Festival, including Heath Ledger and Lisa McCune

“They initially performed as festival contestants before their success in Australia and overseas.”

The Colla Voce Choir will perform songs from the musical South Pacific, including There is Nothing Like a Dame and Some Enchanted Evening, and My Fair Lady with songs such as With a Little Bit of Luck, I’ve Grown Accustomed to Her Face and I Could Have Danced All Night.

Some North of Perth Festival winners performing on the night include:
• Isabelle Rivette, singing O del mio Dolce Ardor by Christoph Willibald von Gluck and Die Junge Nonne by Schubert.
• Emily Gelineau, playing Svendsen’s Romanze Op 26 on violin, Mozart’s Rondo Alla Turca on piano and Claude-Michel Schönberg’s Castle on a Cloud on piano and vocals.
• Acacia Daken, performing her drama piece Fashion Tips for the Young and Beautiful where she plays a deportment school principal remembering her first meeting with the man of her dreams.
• Miranda Macpherson, singing Jeanine Tesori’s Girl in 14G and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s My Kind of Love from The Beautiful Game.
• Lawrence Ng playing Liszt Paganini etude No.6 and Prokofiev sonata in A minor on piano.

Scholarship winners Alvin Lea and Wynita Franklin will also be performing as part of the concert.

Mayor Kenyon described the community concert as a celebration of the community’s diversity through the arts, helping to bring people together to enjoy a range of entertainment.

“The concert also highlights the City of Bayswater’s commitment to fostering and encouraging talent where possible, helping people to make the most of their passion,” he said.

While the community concert is a free event, online booking is a must at www.trybooking.com/EVR.

The event starts at 7pm, followed by a light supper after the concert.

The Morley Sport and Recreation Centre is on the corner of Wellington Street and Mangini Road.

colla voce: The Colla Voce Choir – regulars at Carols By Candlelight – will be performing at the City of Bayswater’s free annual community concert on June 5.

City of Bayswater

The City of Bayswater is a local government area in the inner north-eastern suburbs of the West Australian capital city of Perth, about 9km north-east of Perth's CBD, and includes the suburbs of Bayswater, Beford, Embleton, Maylands, Morley and Noranda and parts of Mount Lawley and Dianella. It covers an area of 32.8 square kilometres and has a population of 55,801.

Originally, the Bayswater Road District was created in 1897 and, in 1961, it became a shire before attaining City status in 1983. The City of Bayswater is divided into four wards and represented by 11 councillors with the Mayor elected from among the councillors.

Recent developments in the City of Bayswater include the opening of the Galleria shopping centre in 1994, on the site of the old Boans building that burnt down in 1986. Morley is now the largest commercial district outside of Perth and Fremantle and further growth is expected.
