Drawn from 5 years of local Life Drawing Sessions, Wynnum artist De Gillett has collected 62 completed artworks into an exhibition called “Knickerless”, to be held at Slingshot Bar Gallery, Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Art, Fortitude Valley from February 10th.
“The nude human form is among the hardest subjects to draw well,” says Gillett. “These drawings were made directly from life in 15-minute poses. My favourite model is from Manly, and the Arts Tree Studio/Classroom is at Wynnum West, so all this bare flesh is a local as a pelican!”
Gillett has taken her charcoal sketches and transformed them into a cornucopia of texture and colour, with works ranging from the extravagant star of the show, a very large contemporary re-imagining of Klimt’s famous “The Kiss” in collage, paint and drawing; to tiny framed limited edition giclée reproductions just 10 cm high.
“Knickerless” is De’s first entirely figurative exhibition since “Humanology” in 2004 and is a rare chance to purchase one of Gillett’s figurative works.
“[email protected]” runs for 3 weeks from 10/02/2018
The Opening event is Saturday February 10th from 5:00 pm.
Arts Tree is a private art school at Wynnum, Brisbane, offering online and in-studio art classes with tutor De Gillett
