McLaren Vale based winery Braydun Hill, which only makes fine Shiraz wines, has won a Gold Medal for its Single Vineyard Premium Shiraz 2012 at the most prestigious wine competition in North America, the Sélection Mondiales Des Vins Canada International Wine Competition.

Carol Bradley, who manages sales and marketing for Braydun Hill said, "We know our fellow Australian wine connoisseurs and Aussie judges love our premium shiraz wines, but it's also good to see their quality recognised overseas where they're pitted against the best the world has to offer."

Other South Australian wineries Taylors (based in the Clare Valley) and Gatt (based in the Barossa Valley) were also awarded medals at the international competition.

The 2012 Single Vineyard Premium Shiraz exhibits complex stone fruit and spice on the nose, and a rich, and has a layered palate of dark berry flavours with chocolate and savoury elements.

The long fine tannins which are essential to balance the superb fruit and French and American oak undertones give the wine longevity; while it makes for good drinking right now, this McLaren Vale shiraz could be cellared carefully for great drinking until 2025. The secret is in how viticulturalist Tony Dunn hand-prunes and carefully tends his vines and the winemaking prowess of skilled winemaker Rebecca Kennedy.

In 2014 this exceptional wine also won gold medals in the Winewise Small Vignerons Awards and in Wine Showcase Magazine.

As James Halliday explained in awarding Braydun Hill 4½ star winery status in his 2008 Wine Companion, “Carol and Tony... have produced wines since 2001, which leaves no doubt this is a very distinguished site capable of producing wines of the highest order."
