Adelaide-based ethical textile start-up Solomon Street has released their debut print collection, applied in a range of sophisticated fabric and paper products. The maiden range joins a love for colourful natural produce with graceful illustration. Hand-drawn botanicals are given life in combination with recycled materials and natural fibers, creating a soft and charming aesthetic. All manufacturing is undertaken with ethics, sustainability and transparency at the fore, with many products being made by hand.
Solomon Street was birthed from an ethos of zero-waste ethical living, and the belief that all business bears responsibility for current and future communities. Designer Lauren Crago states ‘Solomon Street’s commitment to ethical sourcing and manufacture forms the basis of our existence. Our goal is to model a business that is able to sustainably give back to the world.’ Fifty percent of profits of Solomon Streets’ leading products, Sketchbooks and Notebooks, are directed to ‘Essentials for Women SA’, to spread the word and support their work providing South Australia’s most vulnerable women with essential sanitary items. Another wave of new products will be arriving before the end of 2017.
You can find Solomon Street’s first releases online at solomonstreet.com.au, in co-selling boutiques including The Adelaide Remakery, Adelaide Flower House and Vintage Carousel, and at various local craft and produce markets around the Adelaide region. Solomon Street creates botanically inspired prints, that are then applied to fabric or paper based products. All our business actions are lead by compassion towards others, and the environment. We walk our talk by actively only using natural fibres in all our products, and where synthetic is necessary, the material is recycled. We currently hand make a large majority of the products in a home studio, with paper printing being done locally and fabric printing being done interstate, by sustainably minded printers. Solomon Street aims to work in conjunction with community organisations locally and globally to improve the wellbeing of our communities and environment.
