Australian rockers announce tour for humanity in the Philippines and Fundraiser gig

Sydney based rock band Bonney Read will embark on a 9-date tour of the Philippines in March 2015 during which time they’ll partner Gawad Kalinga (GK), an organisation dedicated to helping the poverty-stricken build sustainable communities; and Joomajam, who provide the GK community pre-schools with quality education.

“I grew up in the Philippines and have lived in Australia for 8 years now. I’ve experienced the difference between a nation that suffers poverty and corruption, and a nation where everyone gets a fair go. It all comes down to the kids, and arming them with the skills and the passion with which they can build the life they dream. Making a difference through music has always been important to Bonney Read, so we feel extremely blessed to be given this opportunity to do what we love to do for a higher purpose.” – Kat Ayala

Bonney Read are holding a fund-raiser gig for their trip to the Philippines on Thursday 12 February at Spectrum in Sydney. They’ll be supported by alt-rock powerhouse Stellar Addiction, and the smooth and sultry Soul Kitchen. Tickets are on sale now from Moshtix (http://www.moshtix.com.au/v2/event/bonney-read-2015-philippine-tour-fundraiser/75231)

Bonney Read

Bonney Read was born out of the teeth, nails, and tears of high school cheerleaders, band geeks, and choirgirls. She was born out of leather-clad fists pumping drunk rock anthems from the darkest recesses of freshly broken hearts. She was born out of creatures of the Sydney scene and everything that comes with that – think glitter and confetti, bourbon and cigarettes, lipstick and fist fights, rock n’ roll and laser lights. Think dive bars, tattoos and piercings, eyeliner and hairspray – LOTS of hairspray. Think love, betrayal, anger and resilience, and ‘It was a good idea at the time!’ This is her clamour.

Bonney Read is a family of four with something to say. They forged her from the desire to scream and the hunger to connect. She is now voice and army, true friend and safe refuge. She is home and hero, and she will slay your sorry ass if you ruin her birthday party. Please join her for a dance at your friendly neighbourhood disturbance.
