Australia’s biggest Competitions Website turned 10 years old on January 5th, only weeks after welcoming their 300,000th member.

Publisher, Craig Seitam, has been involved from the start.  In 2005 Competitions Guide began as ‘Shoppers Bonus’, with a strategy of only promoting supermarket competitions.

“Ten years ago seems like a lifetime”, Craig remarked. “Then, over 50% of competitions were entered by mail, with 1900 phone numbers being the next most popular.  SMS entry followed, and online was a distant fourth!”

As with technology, the strategy of competitions has also changed.  According to Craig, “In 2005 it was rare to find a competition with free entry.  Nowadays, most competitions requiring a purchase don’t survive.”

Over the decade, Competitions Guide has chalked up nearly 50 national television appearances, as well as radio interviews, and magazine spreads.

Asked if media is the secret to Competitions Guide’s success, Craig answered “Yes, partly, but we are one of the few websites that identify who is behind it.  Other websites go out of their way to pretend they’re a huge corporation.  We are unashamedly a husband and wife operation, with very few outside contractors. We are actually one of those work-from-home couples!”

Editor, Helen Seitam, points out that their members have helped Competitions Guide grow.  Helen said, “Nearly every change we make is a result of a member suggestion.  We have a long list of members who have won prizes big and small, and I love nothing more than writing about their wins.”
