The Adelaide Convention Centre has won accolades for Best Venue and Corporate Social Responsibility at the 2009 Meetings and Events Australia (MEA) Awards for the second consecutive year, announced in Melbourne last night.

Adelaide Convention Centre Chief Executive Officer, Alec Gilbert, is thrilled the Centre’s Gold Service, Green Attitude has been recognised yet again for providing clients with premium quality while also maintaining a superb commitment to sustainability.

“Part of the superior product we provide is our commitment to environmental sustainability and we have numerous initiatives in place to reduce our carbon footprint to allow us to provide gold class service while being environmentally responsible,” he said.

The award for Best Venue Without Accommodation is designed to acknowledge outstanding success in convention centres. The Adelaide Convention Centre won the award in recognition for its business and marketing plans, resource management, financial performance, variety of activities and events, responses to challenges, identification of opportunities and its contribution to the industry.

“To be recognised by the Meetings and Events Australia Awards for excellence in business practice in the Meetings and Events Industry is a fantastic reward for the Centre’s team’s tireless efforts to excel and achieve outstanding results for its customers and the industry,” Mr Gilbert said.

The Adelaide Convention Centre was presented with the Corporate Social Responsibility award for their outstanding CSR strategy, which includes low-mile food catering, carbon offset programs, and various sustainable initiatives such as a worm farm and waste recycling, as well as the excellent communication of these efforts to key stakeholders and customers.

The back-to-back MEA Awards come two months after the Adelaide Convention Centre’s second consecutive win at the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards for the Meetings and Business Tourism category.

The Adelaide Convention Centre hosted in excess of 600 events, attended by more than 300,000 people and attracting 28,000 visitors to South Australia in the last year.
