HONG KONG -- (MARKETWIRE) In 2009, as part of their commitment to the citizens of Niger and the local environment, Trendfield Energy and Resources took on a project to rehabilitate the lion habitat at the Niamey National Museum and Zoo "Musee National Boubou Hama." "Taking on this project was an essential part of our community development program and it is something we take seriously," said Guy Duport, CEO of Trendfield Holdings. He added that "this ould also be the platform that creates more direct community activity by foreign companies to assist in the development of not only the Niamey National Museum and Zoo, but the community at large."

Trendfield, alongside the Ministry of Culture and the World Mining Foundation, will partner to create the largest lion habitat of its kind in West Africa. Along with rebuilding the entire habitat for all 7 lions, they will also provide the zoo with much needed veterinary services.

The visiting vet, Dr. Pete Black from the St. Louis Zoo was able to examine: 54 animals (22 mammals, 28 birds, 4 reptiles) during the course of his 10 day visit. The priority, however, was the lions, which had not seen a veterinary surgeon in more than 10 years.

The Trendfield Habitat for Lions, at a cost of USD$60,000 will open later this year and extend the current exhibit to 50 m x 20 m. The project is the first step to creating a zoo that can become a cultural center and a tourist destination for both locals and foreign visitors.

According to Mr. Duport, the vision for this project is, "First, to bring attention to the wild life of Niger and West Africa, and secondly, I hope that it will spark other foreign investors to assist the zoo to make it a center of learning and an example for other communities to take notice of the plight of the animals."
