The prestigious Awards, launched by Tourism Minister John Rau, attract hundreds of entries each year, with winners going on to represent South Australia at a national level.
South Australian Tourism Industry Council Chief Executive Ward Tilbrook says the Awards are the pinnacle of excellence within the tourism industry, and reward innovation and foster best business practices by setting a benchmark for all tourism operators to aspire to.
“This year is a particularly significant year for the Tourism Awards with the nomination and submission process all completed online, creating a more streamlined entry process for all nominees” Mr Tilbrook says.
“Last year we saw record entrants into the Awards process and with good reason. A win or medal does enhance the appeal and reputation of a tourism business and can be seen as one of the greatest marketing initiatives.
“These awards are the tourism industry’s premier accolade. It is a whole of business award, not just a customer service award, designed so entrants can tell the whole story about their business.”
Entry is open to all South Australian tourism operators. In total, there are 27 categories this year including accommodation, tour and transport operators, wineries, restaurants, events, tourism marketing, attractions and more.
The Awards process is submission-based and also includes a judge’s site visit. Entrants are required to respond to a number of questions that cover all areas of the business’ operation.
“I encourage all tourism operators to consider entering the 2009 South Australian Tourism Awards to showcase their success and build on the professionalism of their businesses,” Mr Tilbrook says.
Nominations close on 9 July and submissions are due by 16 August. The Awards Presentation and Gala Dinner will be held on Thursday 18 November at the Adelaide Convention Centre.
