UK-based international hospital work experience provider Gap Medics has launched its 2015 Australian Summer Special in Tanzania.

The special will run from December to January, and is designed specifically to cater to Australian students who are interested in pursuing a career in medicine.

The program offers the opportunity for students to get relevant experience in a global context, before completing their UAC or direct university application. Student Kyle O’Neil from Victoria said: "This was an unparalleled experience, which I would highly recommend! There is nothing that comes close to the possibilities offered through this program. Gap Medics gave me a true insight into medicine, in particular healthcare in a developing nation."

The program allows students to spend time shadowing fully qualified medical professionals, observe routine cases and surgery, and learn about the prevention and treatment of tropical diseases.

Each student receives at least 23 hours of clinical shadowing per week, supported by experienced healthcare professionals who act as their mentors. Popular departments include: surgery, obstetrics, internal medicine and paediatrics.

Students live in secure and private accommodation, complete with a full-time staff team.

Gap Medics Business Development Director, Mark Hinksman said 'Our customer base in Australia is growing fast – we are delighted to offer a programme specifically aimed at Australian students'.
