If driving some of the world’s best cars on some of the world’s best roads and race tracks is on your wish list, that wish could be about to come true.

Australian-based Ultimate Driving Tours has two great adventures planned this year, tailored specifically for those who love cars – but places are limited.

The Ultimate F1 Tour (July 15-22) is 2000 miles of driving marques such as Lamborghini, Aston Martin and Ferrari through France, culminating with a day in genuine F1 and F3 openwheeler race cars at a private race circuit.

The Ultimate Nürburgring Tour (July 23-26) involves driving production-based racing cars on the famous Northern Loop of the original circuit, with full track instruction from professional race drivers.

UDT director, Anthony Moss, describes the tours as the ‘ultimate bucket list experience’.

“Our tours are designed for people who would rather be out there doing it, than sitting on the sidelines watching. Our clients actually get seat time in genuine racing cars on real race tracks, or have the opportunity to drive the world’s greatest supercars on some of the most fantastic roads in Europe.

“You can do a lot of different tours and cruises over there and obviously you can watch motorsport events there, too, but we weren’t able to find anyone who does a proper driving tour. Everything seems to be designed for people to be passengers and spectators.

“We wanted to develop a tour where clients could really get amongst it – and from the feedback so far, we’re definitely on the right track.”

Sydney-based Moss, 33, has been hooked on cars and motorsport since he competed in his first rally 10 years ago. From that moment, he dreamed about turning his passion into a profession and has done so very successfully over the last seven years, with the development of the multi-state Australian Tarmac Challenge (previously the Dutton Rally Series).

His second great love is travel, so Moss went to Europe in 2007 to see if he could combine his two interests with the aim of offering something different to clients who share his interests.

He did his homework, looking at logistics and talking to suppliers before teaming up with business partner Luke O’Neill to create Ultimate Driving Tours. Their first tours were run in 2008 and were warmly received – the duo is still fielding calls from satisfied clients keen to reminisce about the events.

“Many of our clients lost money in the global financial crisis. Now they want to spend some of what they have and do something for themselves. But it’s not always easy to organise so they need some one to organise it for them.”

Each tour is limited to 16 people to ensure every client has plenty of time in the cars. Pricing is from $6500 for the Nürburgring Tour (accommodation included) and $14,500 for the Ultimate F1 Tour (accommodation not included). Cost does not include airfares.

Moss and O’Neill are presently developing several other overseas driving tours but can also create a tailor-made package to suit specific needs or interests.
