Australian water utility TRILITY has announced its appointment as operator of four water treatment plants in regional Victoria.

TRILITY will operate the plants for the next 13 years in conjunction with the plants’ new owner, AMP Capital.

The deal reinforces TRILITY’s position as a market leader in the operations and maintenance of water utility infrastructure.

AMP Capital has acquired 100 per cent of the water asset’s owner AquaTower, the contracting entity for water treatment plants in the western Victorian townships of Ararat, Great Western, Halls Gap and Stawell.

The four water treatment plants have been operating since 2002 and currently process approximately 2,400 megalitres each year to 13,000 residents and businesses across the region.

TRILITY will operate the plants under an existing 25-year agreement with the Grampians Wimmera Mallee Water (GWMW) in western Victoria. GWMW has a footprint that covers a quarter of the State and delivers services to approximately 72,000 residents and businesses.

TRILITY and AMP Capital have strong ties through the long term partnership on the Riverland Water Project. TRILITY designed, built, financed, operates and maintains Riverland Water across ten plants which source water from the Murray Darling river system.

TRILITY Managing Director Francois Gouws welcomed the opportunity to broaden the company’s relationship with AMP Capital through the operations of the AquaTower assets.

“This is an important and highly valued opportunity for TRILITY,” Mr Gouws said.

“We have had an excellent strategic relationship with AMP Capital since the late 1990s through the Riverland Water contract in the South Australian Riverland region.

“TRILITY’s presence in these four Victorian communities will mean we are adding thousands of new consumers to our customer base and it significantly boosts our operating capability in that State.

Mr Gouws said TRILITY was looking forward to developing a long term relationship with Grampians Wimmera Mallee Water.

“TRILITY’s approach to operating these important assets will be about ensuring a seamless transition for the new owner and delivering the service that customers across the Grampians and Wimmera Mallee region have come to expect,” Mr Gouws said.

“We also have a clear focus on building this business and developing expertise across the operations, from managing and maintaining the assets to better understanding the expectations of customers who rely on each of the four water treatment plants every day.”
