Black Dog Riders are gearing up for an epic Ride Around Australia in July to
raise awareness for depression and suicide prevention.
On the 26 July 2014, 70 Black Dog Riders will embark on a 32-day journey around Australia. Starting and finishing in Sydney, the ride will cover a distance of 14,500kms.
State rides will run concurrently to the Black Dog Ride Around Australia as it passes through each state. Registration is now open for the state rides and riders are encouraged to register early to secure a spot. Registration for the state rides will close on Monday, 30 June 2014.
The ride’s founder Steve Andrews, who lost his mother to suicide, will be leading the riders around Australia.
“Depression is an illness, not a weakness and effective treatments are available. If we talk about depression and work together, we can make a difference,” said Steve.
The Ride Around Australia will follow the course taken by Steve Andrews five years ago when he first embarked on his inaugural solo ride to raise awareness for the cause. Since then, Black Dog Ride has raised over $1,300,000 for mental health and suicide prevention services, raising over $500,000 last year alone.
Funds raised during the Ride Around Australia will go towards Lifeline Australia’s suicide prevention programs and Mental Health First Aid’s teen course program – teaching high school students how to provide mental health first aid for their friends
