Innovative Australian app, AskU wins iAward

27 June 2014, Sydney:

  • Mobile survey app takes out NSW innovation award
  • Milestone: Three million answers from public market research panel
  • Massive 98% completion rate to public surveys thanks to charity tie-in
  • Unique business model create shared value for companies, consumers and charities

At the NSW iAwards, survey app, AskU was recognised for its innovative technology, business model and commitment to social impact. The "shared value" model connects the "3 Cs" - consumers, companies and charities to create value for all three.

The iAwards honour the best and most innovative solutions in each State or Territory. Winners and merit recipients go on to represent their State or Territory at the National level in Melbourne in late August.

How AskU works

Companies pay AskU to conduct market research, collect polling data or event feedback - and 50% of the revenue raised goes directly to charity. This has seen the Australian Charities Fund, The Smith Family, Redkite, Mission Australia and Opportunity International all benefit from achieving regular charity goals. AskU users harness their idle time, donating 30 seconds, one or two minutes to answering questions in support of these charities.

Since launching in September 2013, the AskU community has now provided over 3 million answers to thousands of questions.

The simplicity of the app and the self service survey platform underplays the power of AskU.

"Sometimes people like to support charities in non-financial ways - and AskU is a great way to do this. Companies get the insights they need not in six or eight weeks time, but in days - and being able to see the results via our real-time dashboard is ground-breaking. We see this as a great way to connect companies, consumers and charities at the same time", says AskU General Manager, Gavin Heaton.

More innovation in the pipeline

There is more innovation in the survey app due in the coming months. "We have over 3 million answers in our database, but we're just scraping the surface of the potential of this data. We're working towards new ways of engaging with consumers, connecting with charities and helping businesses make better decisions, faster. The iAwards focus on innovation is a great validation of our progress"
