The New South Wales Government has recently approved an additional operator for Sydney Harbour Bridge climbs.
The new operator’s climbs will start from the northern end of the Bridge near Luna Park and follow an exciting new route right up to the western flagpole. Those more ‘enthusiastic’ participants will be allowed to climb the flagpole to the top.
Dick Smith, proprietor of Dick Smith Foods Bridgeclimb, said, “I am delighted that the New South Wales Government has approved our ‘Risk Takers’ Bridgeclimb’. Instead of being attached to the bridge by a mollycoddling, mechanical device, our clients will be able to ‘climb free’. They won’t even require special apparel – in fact, thongs, t-shirts and Stubbies will be enough. Our climbing groups will take us back to the 1960s when young people could take risks and not be overprotected and featherbedded every minute of the day.
“The first climb will take place early next Tuesday morning,” said Dick Smith. “Depending on the outcome, the New South Wales Government will make a decision as to whether or not they will extend our contract”, said Dick Smith. “Free OzEmite will be given to the few who safely return from their climb.”
Dick Smith said, “NSW State Premier, Barry O’Farrell, has welcomed the competition and extra income that will flow into State coffers.”
